Cloud Native Computing Foundationの新トップに、OpenInfra Foundationトップとの兼任となるJonathan Bryce氏が就任

Linux Foundationは、同団体傘下でクラウドネイティブを推進するCloud Native Computing Foundation（CNCF）の事実上のトップとなるエグゼクティブディレクターにJonathan Bryce（ジョナサン・ブライス）氏が就任したことを発表しました。

Jonathan Bryce氏は、2012年に設立されたOpenStack Foundationの設立メンバーの1人であり、現在はその後継となるOpenInfra Foundationのエグゼクティブディレクターを務めています。

OpenInfra Foundationは今年（2025年）3月にLinux foundationに傘下したばかりでした。

Jonathan Bryce氏がCNCFのエグゼクティブディレクターに就任したことで、Bryce氏はCNCFとOpenInfra Foundationの両方のエグゼクティブディレクターを兼任することになります。

OpenStackとKubernetesなどのシームレスな体験を実現していく

OpenInfra Foundationがホストしている主なプロジェクトは、クラウド基盤のオープンソース実装であるOpenStackです。

そしてCNCFは、コンテナランタイムのcontainerdやクラウドネイティブ基盤となるKubernetes、オブザーバビリティのためのPrometheusなど、クラウドネイティブの実現に欠かせない多数の多数のソフトウェアをホストしています。

この2つの組織をリードする立場となったBryce氏には、当然のことながらレイヤーの異なるこのソフトウェア群のいままで以上の協力や連携の実現が期待されることでしょう。

Bryce氏もそのことはよく理解しており、CNCFエグゼクティブディレクターの就任に当たって公開したブログ記事「Joining CNCF as Executive Director: Let’s Build What’s Next」では、次のように書いています。

It is also an opportunity to create unprecedented strategic alignment between the foundational infrastructure layer of OpenInfra, and the cloud native application layer of CNCF, two of the most important ecosystems in open source. For years, the industry has been working to bridge these worlds, and my dual role is designed to do exactly that— foster deeper collaboration, reduce friction, and create a more seamless experience for the developers and users who rely on both.

これはまた、OpenInfraの基盤となるインフラストラクチャレイヤーと、オープンソースで最も重要なエコシステムの2つであるCNCFのクラウドネイティブアプリケーションレイヤーとの間に、前例のない戦略的な連携を生み出す機会でもあります。長年にわたり、業界はこれらの世界の架け橋に取り組んできましたが、私の2つの組織における兼任は、まさにそれを実現するように仕組まれたものであり、より深いコラボレーションの醸成、摩擦の低減、そして両方のソフトウェアに依存する開発者やユーザーにとってよりシームレスな体験を実現していきます。

Bryce氏のリードの下で2つの組織とそのソフトウェア群がどのようなシナジーを生み出すのか、期待したいところです。
